The official video, short but sweet, totally got me.
Layout by Sabrotone.
I made a little daughter board to have the led/ldr assembly by itself.
I tried many different combinations of led/ldr.
In the end i picked an ultra bright blue led and a massive plastuc encapsulated ldr i put aside cos it was too big from my last univibe project!
Remember the tip of the led has to be looking the ldr in the face. Heres how i made a little lightshield.. from a midi plug, chopped both sides. Inserted the led at the wider end, and mounted the led in its holder in reverse: granted stability.
Works a charm.
Sounds of the work in progress:
LED shootout using the chosen LDR (very big one, see above):

In a couple of days i put together the Heliotrope (a ring modulator in my book), as per Sabrotone layout..
(remember the useful comment as posted by someone to modify the switch:
(Thanks to the original poster at Sabrotone, and the legendary IvIark for the original wiring layout) otherwise it will whine even when on bypass)
Though owning Electro Harmonix’ Frequency Analyzer in the big sexy old school case already, i did not really need another ring mod.. Nevertheless, here ’tis.. just press play on tape
8 bit flavor since it is supposed to crush code ahahah
Cute auto wah with lots of flexibility (attack, decay, sensitivity ♡, Q).
Layout found on Sabrotone (cheers).
Real sweet and candylike.
I loooove Light Dependant Resistors!
