When i bought it it looked like this
I decided to restore it to its original colour (or as close as i could…)
My beloved Hohner Cembalet I has gone silent, all of a sudden.
Here we go with a few pics i took for reference of the main board.
They may help someone else whos trying to fix his Cembalet.. I hope.
Schem and user manual (in kraut):
Update: the Cembalet healed itself and now it works great. I did not have to do anything to it, it just works again, magic, bang.
A friend who’s an electronic repairer said that the most important part to watch out for is the inductor (Spule in german), as it’s custom wound to specs for this instrument.
Was this the very first BBD delay?
Tabletop machine, self oscillating AND from past internet auctions and reviews it is apparent, nobody knows how to determine if theirs is in working order (😂), because it is very temperamental and does a lot of different things.. But when it behaves, it’s magic!
Echo, reverb and has a very weird chorus.
Amazing and beautiful, nothing like a tape echo or a memory man.. Far less predictable!
A delay with character.
Syd Barrett’s hairy boost.. VERY WARM AND THICK. Perfect counterpart to Syd’s favourite amp settings, basically treble at 10.
Perfunctory build on eyelet board, with external vero for transistor testing, using 2N2613 as per original.
Just when my MB9090 kit got here… My goodness Vincent of E-licktronic just announced Nava, an amazing kit to build a Roland TR909 clone.
It’s WHITEEEEEEE! 😍😍😍😍😍
The first fuzz box.. The Satisfaction horns sound, the star of so many fuzztonic records. I had to make myself the perfect clone! Yes i built a couple of these before, but i wanted to build it properly.. This is what i came up with:
I did find them! A small stash of them actually! And i didnt have to sell my body to get them. Not RCA’s, but NOS 2N270: leaky, gainy, nasty 2N270s!
Next, i set up this testing board with a nice ZIF socket!
First good set-listen:
Q1 hfe 79 lkge 0.12mA
Q2 hfe 168 lkge 0.53 mA
Q3 hfe 131 lkge 0.70 mA
I tried inverting Q3 and Q2 but the distortion was oscillating..
